BOP Pickleball Stadium Trust – Project Update
Dear Pickleball Supporters,
The BOP Pickleball Stadium Trust has spent the last 18 months searching for a suitable site on which to build a dedicated indoor pickleball stadium for the Bay of Plenty. Our original vision was to secure a large parcel of land capable of accommodating a purpose built facility containing 14 indoor courts, associated amenities, and parking. Finding a site of the required size has proven extremely difficult.
As a result, the Board expanded its search to include existing buildings with sufficient floor area and a minimum clear roof height of 9 metres. We are excited to report that we have found what we believe is the perfect solution. A modern warehouse facility in the Greerton area has become available. The building is centrally located, includes parking for more than 50 vehicles, and offers the size and height required to create a world-class pickleball venue. Buildings of this quality are highly sought after, and the Trust has now made an offer to purchase the property. The vendors have indicated that they would like to see the building used for the benefit of the community. Once fitted out, the facility will become a dedicated pickleball stadium featuring 14 indoor courts and supporting amenities, with only pickleball lines on the playing surface. Opportunities such as this are extremely rare.
Our target is to have the stadium operational by mid-2027.
To make this vision a reality, the pickleball community needs to raise approximately $2–3 million. This contribution is vital in demonstrating to potential funding partners, including Tauranga City Council and TECT, that our community is committed, capable, and ready to support the project. Funding can be provided in a variety of ways, including debentures, donations, sponsorships, and other structured arrangements.
There are several options available that can provide appropriate safeguards for contributors. The Trust currently holds an option to purchase the building until the end of July 2026, making the coming weeks critically important.
This update is intended to keep you informed and encourage you to start thinking about how our community can contribute. We all have networks and connections throughout Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty, and we ask that you help spread the word about this exciting opportunity. In early July, we will be seeking indications of potential financial support so that we can assess the level of community backing for the project.
